**Urgent Foster Needed** for four 4 week old kittens. 2 of the kittens are still bottle feeding and the other 2 are eating moist food on their own. Kittens will need to be fed every 4 hours during the day and once through the night. They should start to wean in 1-2 weeks. Call the shelter, leave a message, and someone will get back to you on the steps to help out.
“Willow” is a 4 month old kitten currently being fostered. Her foster mom noticed one day that she was breathing different. Each time she took a breath, her neck would bulge out. She was brought to Sparta Vet Clinic where an x-ray showed a largely expanded air filled esophagus. She was urgently referred to UW Madison. She was put under sedation and a throat exam was performed. The doctor found a polyp in her neck that was causing a stricture (narrowing) of her esophagus. It was also affecting her trachea (airway) which made it difficult for her to breath. In an effort to get proper air, she had to take bigger breaths and this in turn would cause air to inflate her esophagus (up to where the stricture was located). This extra effort to breath was exhausting and she was becoming very fatigued. She was placed under general anesthesia and had surgery to remove the polyp. Surgery went well but they had to keep her overnight for monitoring.
She came home yesterday and is doing well! The cost of her care was $650.00. If anyone is interesting in making a donation to help cover her expense you can call the shelter at 608-269-3525 or send donation to PO Box 101 Sparta, WI 54656. Please indicate or say it is for “Willow’s fund”. Since our shelter functions solely on donations and fundraising, any amount donated (even $5.00) will greatly help and be very much appreciated. Thank you!
