April 30th: A special day for Pet Shelters
Many people are unaware, but today, April 30th, is National Adopt-a-Shelter-Pet Day! While we believe everyday should be adopt a shelter pet day, we still want to take a few minutes to remind you of all of the wonderful benefits you get when you adopt a shelter pet! Here's a link to the Animal Rescue League of Boston's article on the benefits of adopting (click here), RadioFence.com's article on the Top 5 Benefits (click here), and the Humane Society of the United States' article on the Top 5 Reasons to Adopt (click here).
Also, remember to take a look at all of our wonderful cats and kittens that are available for adoption!
Joseph is approximately 4-5 years old. He was rescued after years on the prowl- scrounging for food, enduring freezing snowy conditions, fighting with other animals, and even surviving an attack by a falcon. His nose and eyes were runny, both ears damaged, and he had a gaping wound on his head. All of which were treated.
Even after enduring all of this, he is almost pathologically friendly, craving attention from anyone, and the more people around, the happier he is.
In a short time, Joseph was transported seven times, varying distances and travels well. Adapting to new environments instantly. He would be a great travel companion.
He is also FIV positive (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) so he needs to be an only cat. Even with this it does not slow him down a bit and will more than likely still live a long and happy life.
Caution should be used with young children as he is prone to giving subtle love bites. Joseph longs for a forever home he can call his own, where he will get the love and attention he readily gives others in return, and still being so after all he has hardships, that he is greatly owed and has earned.
Widening your cat's playground!
The weather is getting warmer here in Wisconsin as spring slowly approaches. If your cat is an inside cat, have you ever thought about taking your cat outside? By taking your cat outside, you're allowing them to explore and play in the world around them. Two options you have when considering taking your inside cat outside, are Catios and Leashes. Catios are essentially enclosed spaces that allow your cat to move around outside, without the fear of them getting lost. Here at the shelter we have our own catio, which all of the cats love to bask in the sun and play with the bugs outside.
The other option includes teaching your cat to walk on a leash. Thought leashes were only for dogs? Guess again! Many cats, after some getting used to, love the freedom that leash walking allows them. Here is a video below that goes over some steps to teaching your cat to walk on a leash. Send us your thoughts and comments!
Are the foods your "treating" your cat actually good for them?
Check out this quick graphic that covers a handful of the most common "human foods" that we use to treat our cats! Thanks to vet-medic.com for the graphic! Click here to go to the website: www.vet-medic.com
Marking a HUGE Milestone!
We here at AS/AP are happy to announce that our Facebook page has reached a new milestone of 400 likes, AND our Website has officially reached just over 5,000 views!! This is great news! Because we are a non-profit organization, we do not spend much money on advertising. We rely mainly on "Word of Mouth" to spread the word of our cats at the shelter, as well as activities and events we are hosting. Consequentially, we are SO VERY THANKFUL for all of you who have liked, shared, and visited our Facebook and website pages! By liking and sharing on our Facebook page, and commenting and answering surveys on our website, you help spread the word about AS/AP and our many cats who are in need of forever homes!
So again, WE THANK YOU ALL! It is you, our fans and supporters, who power and fund our shelter, and we would not be here without all of YOUR contributions and hard work!

Healthy Cats are Happy Cats!
Ever wonder if your cats behavior is normal? How can you tell if they are not feeling well or have a kitty cold? Worried about possible long term health ailments?
Check out WebMD's Cat Health webpage (linked here). They provide countless amounts of information regarding your cats health, behavior, and habits. If you are in need of a quick resource, here is a good place to start!
**Always remember to consult your pet's regular health care provider with any concerns or questions you have! While WebMD is a good source for information, it cannot replace your cats regular health checkups and vet visits!**
